Stuck In The Middle asked Jeff...

Are you a student? Have you pastored a church? How long have you been in?

Anonymous said...

So Jeff hasn't ever pastored a church in the Org. Yet, he's heard and seen enough with his own ears and eyes. He's been a witness to the acts that have been done in the name of the Lord. He's been a member of the church under various pastors. He's been a friend and confidant to many who've shared with him their horror stories. And.. he has integrity, he's never revealed things said to him in confidence.

I was a member for 32 yrs. I've seen, and heard a lot of stuff done in the name of the Lord. The gossiping of preachers and their wives. It would hurt many if I were to reveal the things said about them in private.

My brother in-law was taken off the board during one conference, because he didn't have the numbers in his church. Another preacher too, was taken off for the same reason, but he denies it was for that reason. Rev. Davis said the board members had to be examples to the other ministers. Yet... there are men on the board who’ve never had big churches. So what was he talking about? He would have had to remove Rev. Johnson, Rev. Olson and Rev. Difrancesco, Rev. Ashmore. John was shamed from the pulpit at another conference, it was said they didn't do a thing in Panama the first time they went!
I've heard and seen things done to my brother in-law and sister that will simply make you angry. Yet, behind closed doors my brother in-law weeps and my sister holds it in. But they just over look it and cry out to the Lord. Even if they did say something about it, what do you think will be said??? Yes, it would be brought out in public and said "they that love the law of the Lord nothing shall offend them. This verse doesn't give preachers the license to bully a child of God! John and Becky know the real deal. We've had talks before where I comforted them.

This going off the subject a little. But I want to show you how they work. Now.. my sister and I have no blood sister relationship at all. It's because Mike Kekel chose to reveal some private emails between him and my husband and Rev. Olson. My sister had no knowledge of this, it wasn't her business. Yet, he said the Holy Spirit led him to show them to her. He caused discord among the brethren, which is a violation of the by laws. If he's so in tune with the Holy Spirit, why didn't he listen to the Spirit telling him not to sow discord? Hmmm or was it the flesh saying thus saith Mike Kekel, blaming the Lord? So my sister automatically chooses the Org's side. John and Becky know the injustices that have taken place. It's just too late to do anything about it now. Their service is to the work of the Lord. Maybe too, their psychologically damaged. People love their abusers and begin to protect them after awhile... aah just remembered the name Stockholm Syndrome .

People may not leave but they sit in the pews with wounded spirits. Some don't feel worthy to be preachers, because that is how you're made to feel. The preacher in Graham brought in off the field. They're preached at by Rev. Davis "how long you gonna sit here" and other messages or comments made. Don't tell me it doesn't go on cause it does! There comes a time when you get tired of hearing about how you didn't do it right. When actually you did do what was taught.

Could it be that person is not in the place where the Lord wants them? Yet, the man who told Rev. Davis where God wanted him is blamed? He is shamed from the pulpit in front of church members and made out to be incompetent. In front of other preachers he's the example or Rev. Davis tells the group of ministers how bad of a preacher they are. This was done to my brother in-law.

My blood boils at the abuse my family has taken, and there are many preachers who have left because of things done and said to them like this! How long and how much does a person have to take before they wake up and see this relationship is abusive.I have never seen a church Org. that has been so abusive such as NTCC.

So for you to say preachers aren't run off by not having enough money or not having enough members in their church, YOU MISTER are living in a fantasy world! You also, have not experienced it yet. You want to hear that Rev. Davis said to ministers "leave". He won't say it face to face, but by the actions and in the messages it is done.

I also, don't agree with what you said "that if a man doesn't want to go somewhere their okay with it"? I've heard comments made about preachers not wanting to pastor here or there, they were over looked for other appointments. What planet are you on? You are drinking too much kool-aid my friend. Unless they have a new policy, or could it be from
the blogs that's cause them to change? I think not, because of how Rev. Reed was treated. But do you think they're going to ask forgiveness of all the people they've hurt throughout the years?

I say to you, your ignoring the things that go on. The signs of various acts are plainly there, you just don't want to face the facts. Some say they would have left sooner, but it was the fear of not being able to make it without the Org. Which is a totally false lie, that was fed to us. People are serving God not trying to please a man. The burden that is released is so powerful and amazing you'll feel like your 100's of lbs. lighter. And... No, we've not turned our lives over to the devil, thank you very much. This is the bondage that keeps you there, weighted down with the thoughts of what will they think?

Speaking from the heart as one who's been there and done that!

Greetings to all, I'm still the same after all these years! It's you and me Jesus, we sure fooled them all! = )

  1. Hello Sir,
Will we be able to videotape or record any of the workshops? I only ask because my husband will not be able to attend and the PA system workshop would truly be a blessing to him.
    Thank you!

  4. To Deb's post I say, AMEN, AMEN, and AMEN! We went and were willing to go anywhere and do anything that was asked of us by NTCC leadership for the last 23 years or so, and now all of a sudden our name is muuuudddd. Maybe our name was mud all along. ;-) Could it be that everyone's name is mud, but some just don't know it yet?

Let me just say, there is no leaving NTCC in good standing, no matter how nice you are or how much you have done in the past. You will be branded if you leave, and this is for damage control. Is this how a healthy church/ organization operates? You decide.

Our decision to leave NTCC was actually made back in '07, after putting up with years of psychological abuse. The reason we did not leave at that time is for the same reason a lot of people don't make the break when they start having thoughts of leaving. We struggled, as others did and are doing right now, over the decision to leave or stay. Let me say that in the end, it was harder to stay than it was to leave. For us the struggle is over, and we know we made the right choice. God has done nothing but bless us since our departure from NTCC in January.

We continually told ourselves, God, I don't want to think this way about what is going on, but it seemed so wrong. Maybe if I pray more, maybe it's not really the way it seems, as we were taught to believe in BS. But the more that we prayed, the more our eyes were opened to the abuse that continues unto this day by NTCC leadership.

Our hearts were broken by the man himself in November 2006. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. We were laboring in Ft. Hood, TX, and a very dear brother who lived in the home by the name of Daniel Morris was killed in Iraq. When the news came to us, I called my pastor, who also knew Daniel personally. I apologized when I realized I woke him up from a Sunday afternoon nap. I then informed him that our dear brother had been killed in Iraq. His response was simply, I already knew. Tieman told me. There was no comfort of love or any semblance that he was concerned with the matter. The point was made, he already knew. My question in this was, why didn't Tieman call me or Pastor as soon as they got the word, at least to find out if I knew yet or offer sympathy or whatever.

At 3:00 a.m. the following morning, the phone rang, and it was my pastor with a rambunctious, let's fellowship. I just thought I'd call and wake you up. I asked him, pastor is this all you called for and I was crying at that point. He said, yes, go back to sleep. Talk to you later. He was returning the favor of my waking him up from his nap.

When I hung up the phone, my wife and I laid in the bed crying, thinking how could our pastor be so cruel. My wife still cries over this because Daniel was a son to us, and we will never forget this.

RWD did call the next afternoon to offer his condolences, but his words were simply, I wanted to finish my mourning over this man, and then call you. It was too little, too late. The damage had been done. I couldn't believe this was the response from the man who I had been calling pastor for so many years.

About a month later we went to a fellowship meeting in Houston, where Pastor was in attendance. We came down for breakfast at the hotel and I was wearing a memorial button that had been made with Daniel's photo on it. As I approached pastor, he looked down at my lapel and saw the button. I will never forget his words, when are you going to let that man die?

I was crushed again beyond measure that these words were coming out of this man's mouth, and my thought was, when you let C.L. Barnes and Mom and Pop Gaylord die. It was at that point, that I never looked at the man -- the one I loved and admired so dearly -- the same and he ceased to be my pastor.

    There is more to come.

    1. I was glad to leave Okinawa to get away from yall church. Pastor Reed you displayed narcissistic behavior you were mean and disrespectful to your members. It bothered me for a while. You said I didn't have faith because I didn't wanna live in the house and you said this on the pulpit in front of everyone. I guess you were treating your members the way your pastor was treating you. I hope you got help stop trying to control people. Ps your wife cooks nice

    2. Also when my grandfather died while in Okinawa you encouraged me not to go to funeral but instead said let the dead bury their dead. That was very comforting Reed lol

  5. Rev. and Sister Reed I am so sorry why is it the people we love and admire the most hurt us the most? I really feel like the people who are the closest to the men and women of God seem to get hurt the most or dealt the hardest with. I was very close to the ones who really hurt me. I was taught young in the org. were not supposed to mourn the death of a fellow Christian in N.T.C.C. Well lets just say no one should tell us how to feel and how not to feel. People should not put a gauge on our emotions. We as human beings have a right to grieve and we all heal differently and handle the loss of a loved one differently. My husband and I are grieving at the time for a dear brother in the Lord who has three more weeks to live after a hard fight to make it. I am sorry for the lack of sympathy your wife and you received at such a hard time.

  6. Wow Bro. That is so sad. I'm sorry you had to go through that. No common decency Bro. No common decency. Heartless and callous. I saw that same kind of stuff from every pastor I had and I knew that it had to come from RWD.

I was staying in a Serviceman's home and my Uncle died. This man was more than an Uncle, he helped raise me and he was my God father. He was probably the nicest man I've ever met in my life and I'm not exaggerating. He just had such an abnormally good heart. Better than most by far and believe me when I say that.

Well I was crying and the pastor of the NTCC church told me to get my self together and I wasn't to go to the funeral and let the dead bury the dead. I'll never forget that and my Dad never forgave me for not going to the funeral. My dad told me this years later. I will die with this guilt. It bothers me right now to even write about it. I placed someone who lacked common decency and was heartless over the people who loved me the most.

The same thing you described, obviously with some differences is the same thing I went through.

Bro I'm sorry about your loss. The young man was like a son to you, (which quite obviously he was) you have my sincere condolences. Of course it's years after the fact but nevertheless applicable. I don't put people in heaven or hell because the truth is only God truly knows, but hopefully the Brother is in a place of peace and eternal rest and just maybe Bro, you lead him in the direction of such a place. Who knows Bro but maybe it provides you with some comfort and I am sorry about your loss.

    Sincerely,
    Jeffrey Collins

That's what I liked about you Pastor Reed is you and your wife loved us like children. Not like bastard children that you had to put up with. I admit, you were rough at times not the one to back down from a fight( like a certain heated exchange of words we had at the car wash lol!) At least I knew where you stood and that you weren't fake. You helped me out when many people scoffed and turned their back on me.

May the crown you cast at Jesus's feet be full of jewels for His Glory!

And if you and your wife need ANYTHING please do not hesitate to call!

  8. Deborah, that is so sad. Wow y'all. Is everyone reading this. Is that what Christianity is all about? Is that what love is all about? Is this brotherly kindness? Charity?

Anyone in the NTCC with common decency should be sickened by these testimonies. Leave your husband because he wanted to verify that you'd be taken care of in the even of his untimely death? I read the letter because Mike Kekel posted it. For those of you who don't know Greg Shunk's concern was that his wife, (Deb Shunk) would be taken care of if he happened to die.

Do you know what Mike Kekel called his question. "Foolish and Unlearned". Oh it's foolish and unlearned to want to insure that a multi-million dollar church corporation, have provisions in place to take care of you wife who'd been with the church for over 30 YEARS if you happen to die? The man was on his death bed in Augusta, for those of you who don't know, so it's not like it's far fetched!!!!

You think the NTCC leadership, (according to Bible standards) is even saved? They completely lack the most common levels decency and they are heartless due to years of indoctrination. Come on y'all. You know Matthew Reed and Deborah Shunk. Do you think they are lying? I know better because I've seen the same garbage take place in the NTCC time and time and time again.

There ought to be laws making it a criminal act for those who practice this kind of treatment toward their fellow man. This ain't Godliness is sick sadistic treatment under the guise of holiness and spirituality.

    Sickening!!!

These are definitely the actions of a narcissist. You woke him up from a nap on Sunday afternoon for a reason that could not be any more important and he returns your call at 3 am. When I first started blogging I didn't have a negative opinion about RWD, in fact, my overall opinion of him was favorable. When I started hearing horror stories like this and looked back on the years lost and all of the stupid policies that were instituted by RWD and carried out throughout the borg, I realized that he is a psychopath. It's about money and nothing else. I know this sounds harsh and I know people find fault with anything negative said about the ntcc, but this is just a taste of what we all went through.

The ntcc is an abusive and destructive cult and it needs to be exposed as such. I've said in the past that there are many good people in the org. that are making the best of a bad situation, but those that are running the show are merciless and continue to cause heartache in peoples lives by controlling them with cult tactics.

My heart was saddened at your story, Matt and Deb. When you love someone to the point of calling them your son, and they are dishonored by those you have given your life to and probably were discouraged from having a biological son of your own, this is sickness. The fact that you spent 3 more years in this abusive environment demonstrates your loyalty to these people that are now dragging your name through the mud. Have they done anything to get you back? Have they shown any concern? I would guess not.

This bunch specializes in the destruction of the Christian life and the systematic break-down of the individual. I see very little Christianity in what they do or how they run the ntcc. They get people saved and fired up, but they do it to manipulate them. People go out to build churches in fervor but with teachings deeply seeded in them that reflects what is taught in BS. What is learned in BS is more of what people see in the lives of RWD and the like as opposed to what they actually teach, and that abusive attitude is sometimes projected unknowingly at times and in spite of the intentions of the many preachers that emulate the ntcc leadership more in deed than in word. I experienced much of what seemed to be love by many in the ntcc, and looking back on things, it was a policy of holding people back and controlling every aspect of their lives that screwed up my life.

We were all indoctrinated into a cult and although it seemed and felt real, the attitudes and habits of us all were shaped by cult leaders that were hurtful and destructive towards us. It's so hard to get over this. I feel betrayed in the worse way by these so called shepherds of souls.

I'm so glad you left and that you are experiencing the real blessings of God. We are happy for you and anyone that escapes with their marital and spiritual relationships in tact.

This is really grieving to hear these things. All I can do is echo the question that Jeff asked: Is this what Christianity is all about?

They didn't take care of the Shunks while they were alive in Korea, and lied to the Korean Government. They are not going to take care of anyone after they die. These people are heartless.

What a heartbreaking story. Driving wedges between family and loved ones. I used to pray and ask God over and over why things were so backward in the ntcc and how could they willingly do the things they did. I'm glad everyone is making public these things so that others can see the tragedy that people suffer in the ntcc.

Jeff, your story is also tragic and displays the total disdain for human compassion that is displayed by the ntcc leadership.

Much to pray for, you all take care and God Bless.

  11. Absolutely shocking! Both stories are just shocking. I don't know which to mention first. ...

Deborah is showing us the culture of divorce in NTCC being taught to the seasoned elites in the org. It was supposed to be "understood" that she should divorce her husband. Incredible! They really believe it. I'm sorry you have really lost a connection with your sister who so long ago was tricked into this whole thing.

And my own first Pastor is saying this now. I have heard things from a lot of people, but this is the man who I first started in NTCC under. I remember listening to him talk so highly of NTCC and really got us to look forward to seeing Pastor Davis when he came to visit. He really wanted us to respect him, and you could tell he just looked up to him a lot as his dear Pastor. It is astonishing to hear that Pastor Davis could be that heartless and cruel to Rev. Reed. One thing this tells me though is the chief thing that the man is concerned about is his privacy. He would rather hurt your feelings and make you think he is a monster with no feelings himself, and make sure you never bother him on his free-time than just simply say, "Oh brother, I'm taking a nap." I can see if someone gets a little irritated because they get a lot of phone calls and I can even understand if he snapped at someone from stress, but at least have the decency to apologize and say, sorry, I know you didn't know I was taking a nap at that time. Why didn't he turn off his cellphone?

  12. It finally dawned on me why Greg asked the question about widows to Rev. Kekel while he was in Korea. They were left out there to struggle on their own with little help from NTCC if any, and so in his mind he must have been thinking, hey, what if I die? Will they do anything for my wife who has been devoted to them for over 30 years? It's a perfectly legitimate question. Wow! Another thought occurred to me just now. It's as if the devil himself is running this thing, because Pastor Davis has discouraged people from having children. Well, who is supposed to take care of you when you are old, if you have no children? And so far the only elderly woman that was taken care of that I know of was Mom Gaylord. Time will tell if they actually take care of their widows through the years- the ones that never had children.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sure they took care of Mom Gaylord; she had assets that, probably, ended up in their clutches once she died. I'm sure they had motives other than love to keep from alienating her. If I'm not mistaken, their house is now part of the "compound." Greg was probably thinking his wife would fare more like Sis. Espinoza, who even with grown children to help her after her husband died has still had to struggle. Greg was exercising prudent foresight.

MD, keep on the firing line. Exposing the deeds of these miscreants is both therapeutic and helpful to others who might be on the verge of deception. The more that is added to the historical account, the better. Glad you and your wife made it out whole.

  14. Rev. Reed

These scriptures came to my mind last night while I was reading the things you wrote.

    Luke 11:11-12
If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

    James 1:5

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

When you made that phone call you were asking for love and got wrath. When you were asking for him to depart some of his wisdom to help you in your situation you got upbraided.

I was just teaching the kids in Sunday School how God never seeks to hurt us. I used to not feel this way I used to feel like God hurt me through certain people because there must be something wrong with me or some secret sin in my life that I didn't even know about.

When our own so called God like leaders act like this it can mar our perception of God and cause us to think we are displeasing to him and can never do anything right.

These people spend so much time focusing on appearance and do's and don't they forget the very point LOVE

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Anyways it is good to know God is a God of love and loves us and wants to work all things together for the good.

  15. Hello Shonda,
I have to say you just hit the nail square on the head. That is the number one thing I have discovered since leaving NTCC. God Is Love. They may have written it on the pulpit, but they forgot to write on the fleshy tables of the heart. The man does not seem to want friends. He seems to want to be left ALONE. I remember the poor minister that was standing there like a little child with pictures of pews in his hands to share with the one he looked up to like a father I am sure (like so many of us did). Rev. Dobosi- there, I just remembered his name. I think it was at a leadership seminar. He was just waiting for Rev. Davis to notice him, so he could show him the pics, and there was no one else even talking to RW Davis. It looked like he was just ignoring him. Finally he looked at the man, and started walking away, and then spoke in a loud voice so that I could hear and I was sitting like maybe 5 rows back, something like, I'M NOT GOING TO STAND THERE AND LOOK AT PICTURES OF PEWS WITH YOU! Real classy and real loving. As if he is so busy that he can't stop and look and say, Congratulations, Bro! Or, if he wanted an appraisal, maybe he could have just said, "I'm too busy now. Why don't you show them to Rev. Olson." Oh, I forgot. It's a military church. You can't skip the chain of command, and you have to be put to shame for attempting it. Why doesn't he just sit on the roof if he doesn't want to be bothered?

  19. First, I would like say thank you for all of your kind words.

The next eye-opener for us was in the spring of '07. While still in Killeen, pastor called me and said, I don't know, Reed, but I have a crazy idea. I've been praying about a work and you keep coming to mind. The work was Hinesville, GA, and he asked me to pray about taking it.

A week prior to his phone call, I had a conversation with K. Gandy. KG said pastor had called him and told him the same exact words. KG declined taking Hinesville, and I was just next on the list. Still, I did as pastor asked me to do, and I prayed. Guess what? I didn't go to Hinesville either. I called pastor back and said I prayed, and I'm not the man. Retaliation for not taking Hinesville was yet to come, but I didn't know it at that time.

A couple weeks later, R. Keener, who was pastoring in Austin, TX, told me that pastor asked him to pray about taking Hinesville, GA. RK said that pastor told him he talked to a couple of men and they couldn't get the mind of God on it, but you're the man. You should have seen the look on RK's face when I told him I was one of those men that pastor had talked to about Hinesville. RK then went to Hinesville.

In my 15 pastoral appointments over 23 years with NTCC, I had heard the statement, I've got a crazy idea, Reed, more than once, but I never knew that I was just part of a call list. I thought wow, so this is really how pastors are appointed. It's like a deck of cards that is being shuffled. Yes, we moved 15 times in 23 years. That's a lot of shuffling, and a whole lot of money spent on moving from place to place, maybe even 90%, and that's a little code talk for the Grahamites. ;-)

    More to come.

  20. Keith Gandy- another nice guy. Real jolly when he is telling a story and you are just giving him the attention he wants. He loves to be in the spotlight. He ran the chow hall after conference nights. I volunteered to help and wound up handing out sodas. I brother told me to take a break so I went to KG and told him the brother told me to take a break. He looked at me and spoke to me like a drill sergeant and said, HE DOESN'T TELL YOU WHEN TO TAKE BREAKS... I DO!!!! GET BACK TO WORK!!! I just played the hee-haw roll that so many of us did and like a schmuck I did exactly what he told me to do.

  24. davis is a pyschopath. We don't just say that. davis' actions prove he is. Just look at Matt Reed's true story about the death of SSgt. Daniel Morris, killed in Iraq, and a man Matt and Debbie loved AS A SON.

    What was hireling davis' reaction?
How dare you wake me up from my Sunday nap?

    6. Shallow Emotions
They are unmoved by things that would upset the normal person, while outraged by insignificant matters.

"the normal person" would be very moved indeed at the loss of someone's life; especially if that someone was treasured as a son!

But davis is a psycopath who is "outraged by insignificant matters" such as being awakened from a Sunday siesta!

    9. Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Psychopaths readily take advantage of others, expressing utter contempt for anyone else's feelings. Someone in distress is not important to them. [...]
Psychopaths are unable to empathize with the pain of their victims.

davis fits this description too. While Matt showed normal grief and honored the loss of a dear one by wearing a memorial button, davis cruelly attacked, demanding that Matt "let that man die." How deranged is that? davis is cruel!

RWD knew the love & close relationship between the pastor & the soldier who was killed & took offense to it. That is why m.d. reed was treated this way.

They totally take the scriptures about Aaron's sons being judged and how he shouldn't have cried and what Jesus was specifically saying to that man (Matthew 8:22, Luke 9:60) totally out of context because they want a calloused automaton. How many times has someone in NTCC not been there for a family member or friend at their most critical time of sorrow?

    Deb Shared this.

And it stirred up inside of me. All the family members I lost while in ntcc. I was unable to attend any of there funerals. For one, they were not the RIGHT family members. The ones in the rules that your allowed to travel home for a funeral or illness. Then I lost my Grandfather to Cancer. I had already purchased the plane ticket to get home During the conference that was coming up. That was a month away when he died. I got up the nerve, which took ALOT! To ask for permission to go back home, change the ticket and fly home. Just me and my Daughter. I was denied. If I left then I lost that entire semester that we had scrounged and paid for. So I stayed there in WA and grieved alone. I then asked for at least ONE night off from class. And it was still like pulling teeth. But I was allowed ONE night off from classes.
Till this day I know I have not totally grieved for my Aunts, grandfather that passed away during the time in the ntcc cult. Because I had to stuff it down and pretend I was happy and nothing was wrong. FAKE!

    Anonymous,
I don't know if you went to many conferences, but I remember when NTCC Christians used to have prayer meetings where we could all call out to God, then one year Pastor stood up at Conference and said, none of you are really praying, and he said that was from the Holy Ghost. He taught us that we should pray silently. After that, we were all just walking around like zombies, like something from Night of the Living Dead.

Rev. Devonshire tried to teach me after that Conference CONTRARY to Rev. Davis that he remembered when the org would really pray calling out to God. I was very confused at that point. Should I listen to RW Davis or Devonshire. I saw something in Devonshire though (despite his making fun of me in the Home in front of the sisters and feeding me pure capsacin one time which I just read recently has 15,000,000- 16,000,000 scoville heat units compared to 5,000,000-5,300,000 in law enforcement pepper spray... it felt like a volcano erupting in my stomach) I saw saw something in him that was that he was a man devoted to prayer, even if part of that may have been to show us that we should pray (showiness), I still think that was good, that he believed so much in what he was doing that he really sought God in the middle of the night while we were in bed, and we could hear him praying out loud. At that point, NTCC seemed to just get worse and worse. Though it seemingly never was any good from Vic's and Deborah's testimonies.

Anyways, Anonymous, I have often wondered if RW Davis was jealous of God because we were all crying out and worshipping Him, not Davis, and that was why he wanted us to just be quiet when we are praying.

  33. A- Milieu Control
"Milieu" is a French word meaning "surroundings; environment." Cults are able to control the environment around their recruits in a number of ways, but almost always using a form of isolation. Recruits can be physically separated from society, or they can be warned under threat of punishment to stay away from the world's educational media, especially when it might provoke critical thinking. Any books, movies or testimonies of ex-members of the group, or even anyone critical of the group in any way are to be avoided.
Information is carefully kept on each recruit by the mother organization. All are watched, lest they fall behind or get too far ahead of the thinking of the organization. Because it appears that the organization knows so much about everything and everyone, they appear omniscient in the eyes of the recruits.

    B-
    Mystical Manipulation

In religious cults, God is ever-present in the workings of the organization. If a person leaves for any reason, accidents or ill-will that may befall them are always attributed to God's punishment on them. For the faithful, the angels are always said to be working, and stories circulate about how God is truly doing marvelous things among them, because they are "the truth." The organization is therefore given a certain "mystique" that is quite alluring to the new recruit.
    C-
    Demand for Purity

The world is depicted as black and white, with little room for making personal decisions based on a trained conscience. One's conduct is modeled after the ideology of the group, as taught in its literature. People and organizations are pictured as either good or evil, depending on their relationship to the cult.
Universal tendencies of guilt and shame are used to control individuals, even after they leave. There is great difficulty in understanding the complexities of human morality, since everything is polarized and oversimplified. All things classified as evil are to be avoided, and purity is attainable through immersion into the cult's ideology.

  34. There is another psycho-trick that psychopaths use- when you are punished for doing BOTH 2 opposite things. PRAY SILENTLY/ PRAY LOUD. I recall the night RW showed us GROANING in the spirit. Everyone wanted to groan in the Spirit. IT WAS LOUD. Some did. He never did that again. Sister Becky groaned. I later did, or "screamed" in the Spirit, experiencing Jesus righteousness just over my being! In that so-called "ministers' prayer meeting". Is it "dissociative cognizance?" I'm not a psychologist- I just research cult tactics of mind control. Evidently RW and McK have also- and institute it!

  36. D- The Cult of Confession
Serious sins (as defined by the organization) are to be confessed immediately. The members are to be reported if found walking contrary to the rules. There is often a tendency to derive pleasure from self-degradation through confession. This occurs when all must confess their sins before each other regularly, creating an intense kind of "oneness" within the group. It also allows leaders from within to exercise authority over the weaker ones, using their "sins" as a whip to lead them on.
    E-
    The "Sacred Science"

The cult's ideology becomes the ultimate moral vision for the ordering of human existence. The ideology is too "sacred" to call into question, and a reverence is demanded for the leadership. The cult's ideology makes an exaggerated claim for possessing airtight logic, making it appear as absolute truth with no contradictions. Such an attractive system offers security.

    F- Loading the Language
Lifton explains the prolific use of "thought-terminating cliches," expressions or words that are designed to end the conversation or controversy. We are all familiar with the use of the cliches "capitalist" and "imperialist," as used by antiwar demonstrators in the 60's. Such cliches are easily memorized and readily expressed. They are called the "language of non-thought," since the discussion is terminated, not allowing further consideration. In the Watchtower, for instance, expressions such as "the truth", the "mother organization", the "new system", "apostates" and "worldly" carry with them a judgment on outsiders, leaving them unworthy of further consideration.

    G- Doctrine Over Person
Human experience is subordinated to doctrine, no matter how profound or contradictory such experiences seem. The history of the cult is altered to fit their doctrinal logic. The person is only valuable insomuch as they conform to the role models of the cult. Commonsense perceptions are disregarded if they are hostile to the cult's ideology.

    H- Dispensing of Existence

The cult decides who has the "right" to exist and who does not. They decide who will perish in the final battle of good over evil. The leaders decide which history books are accurate and which are biased. Families can be cut off and outsiders can be deceived, for they are not fit to exist!

While sitting in the living room in Killeen, TX, back in '08 with pastor and another minister from LA, pastor asked me, so Reed, what do you want to do? I said, do you really want to know? I then said, I believe God wants me in Woodbrook, WA, and it's been on my heart to go there for years.

    Y'all ready for this?

Pastor looked me straight in the eye and said, you'll never pastor in Woodbrook because your wife would be too close to her parents. I couldn't believe that I had just heard those words. I guess it really didn't matter what God wanted. Hmmm...

Still more to come, but I've got to get to sleep. God bless you folks.

It's just all too Orwellian to comprehend, comrades. One brother was heard to remark "you've got to interpret pastor Davis dispensationally." Now isn't that the truth?

People, that is exactly what the NTCC does and what they were doing when RWD wouldn't allow Bro Reed to go to Woodbrook. They isolate you from society and especially from family members. They don't want any outside influences to have any impact on your decisions. It's really sick. I'll bet the Kekels maintain open communication with Grant. Grant is not even attending the NTCS. Davis is good about isolating everyone from their loved ones except his own.

It's really sickening people and all RWD was doing with Bro Reed was playing mind games. He already knew where he wanted Bro Reed to go and it had not one single thing to do with the will of God. It had to do with the will of RWD. Bro Reed was wasting his time praying for answers because RWD was going to follow his plan anyway regardless of what Bro Reed learned through prayer.

  46. I am a twenty year old ex member who was raised in NTCC. Although my family were just longtime members and not ministers. I saw my fair share of corruption as well. I can count on one hand the number of times I've attended NTCC since I've turned eighteen. However, this still affects my life greatly. My mother is still a faithful, die hard member of NTCC. We hardly have a relationship because it's hard for me to even talk with her, knowing that whenever she talks to me, she truly believes that I am going to "die and split hell wide open." I feel guilty sometimes when I'm applying makeup or trying on a pair of jeans. I know this guilt isn't from GOD. However I still struggle with this everyday and many other things as well. I still always wonder "What if NTCC is right?" I know it sounds ridiculous and silly, but there are things that still bother me after 2 years. There's no one I know who understands what it's like to unlearn thinking patterns as a result of being raised in a cult. I'd appreciate any advice.

You do not sound ridiculous these things have been ingrained in your head and it takes time for them to lose their hold. I started going to the church on my own when I was 16 and have recently just stopped being a part with my husband 7 months ago.

It does take time to get over the condemnation. God will not condemn us to hell for not doing something that is not biblically considered sin.

  48. I'll give my advise for all it's worth. The best thing you can do is try your best just so show love to your Mom. She doesn't realize what she is doing or the way she is acting. People in the NTCC are notorious for judging people according to their outward appearance. They will also judge you for not attending their church. The NTCC is not right. I was a part of the NTCC for about 10 years and I witnessed a tremendous amount of corruption. I was in my mid 40s when I finally left the NTCC.

The NTCC leadership doesn't even have good decency but they will judge you in a minute because of the way you dress or how you look. The Bible teaches that it's what's on the inside that defiles a person. The NTCC leaders are really messed up on the inside. You could wear all the jewelry in the world and you'll have a better chance at making it to heaven than an abusive, inconsiderate, judgmental jerk, and the NTCC is full of them.

Your Mom may leave the NTCC one day and if and when she does, I'll guarantee that she'll regret the way she treated you. I'll guarantee it, that is if she ever leaves. You'll be glad to have her back, (psychologically) because she is still your Mom no matter how you look at it.

When you talk to her try to avoid subjects that you know she is sensitive to. Talk about the world affairs and national news and the price of gas and so on. Don't talk about stuff that you know she is not interested in because she is a part of the NTCC like TV shows, or sports, or college, etc. There is probably nothing wrong with taking about college because you know Grant Kekel attends a secular college. Try to find some common ground and if it comes down to it and you may have to remind her that the Kekels son still has a relationship with his parents and his grandparents, R.W. Davis and his wife. Avoid that unless you absolutely have to use it because it will probably start a disagreement.

I'm sorry to hear of the damage that the NTCC has caused to the relationship between you and your Mom. Like I said, just keep loving her. The NTCC leadership certainly isn't going to. They are all fake.

    Don and Ange say,

You have taken a huge step in dealing with what you've gone through. Just by coming to sites where others do understand, reading their stories, and sharing yours, you've begun a journey of healing.

It is difficult to reprogram. It's a new concept to be an individual again. But you can do it. As far as worrying about What if ntcc was right, don't worry about that. It is just like others said, God looks at the heart. You are worried about pleasing Him, right? Doesn't that show that you have a heart for Him? =D

The people Jesus got after or rebuked were the ones like urns, they looked beautiful outside but inside they were full of dead men's bones. Yuck. God knows your heart. That is what matters. The outward stuff really does not impress Him.

We think you're doing fine. And Jeff is right about loving your Mom. And don't forget to love yourself too. Sound weird? God says we love our neighbor as ourselves. We have to love us first. Here's a little scripture that says so much:

    accepted in the beloved

God accepts us because we are in Jesus. God looks at us and is pleased because He sees what Jesus did to reconcile us, to restore our relationship with God.

We share that scripture because Jesus showed us the way to fight the enemy is with the Word. When the devil tempted Christ in the wilderness, Jesus rebuked him saying, IT IS WRITTEN

When the mind games start, remember, IT IS WRITTEN

I am accepted in the beloved
    it is finished
He washed us in His own blood

You get the idea. It really helps.

  52. It is sickening to my stomach to think that I felt called to Bible School and Pastor with the NTCC. The reason I didn't go is because brothers and sisters that know me, Don Tumiole for one, and a few others, know that I have always had strong ties with my family, as I am from SC. I felt that God wouldn't want me to abandon them in the way they felt I should. In the last 5 years, my family has needed me more than ever: helping take care of my blind dad before he died, helping take care of my stepmother with alzhiemer's disease, along with other examples. If God is in control of this thing, why would He expect you to minister away from the people you can minister to the most? Even Rev. Olsen said that he knew RW needed him because he had a vision of him taking RW's suits to and picking them up from the dry cleaners. There was a time I put my family on the back burner because of NTCC. I know Richard Keener and several others personally. They did not have that mindset before Bible School, or before RW's twisted doctrine and rules got a hold of them. I continue to pray for them, as I see them starting out as having a heart for God, and as NTCC is good at, manipulating that to their advantage, by taking someone tender towards God and wanting to do His will, and changing God's will into NTCC's will, and making the tender hearts of the people towards God believe that unless it's NTCC's will, it's not God's will. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, neither am I ashamed of what I write here. IF something needs to be kept secret, then it probably doesn't need to be said.

Sorry, the name sounds so familiar and I'm trying to figure out which one it is, if either.

  55. I am the one who was a Marine and was single for the roughly 13 years that I was in the NTCC where you can't talk to a lady without permission from Pastor Davis, and ministers were afraid to introduce themselves to a lady at Conferences because there was no 'courting' aloud. I had to ask myself, would Rev. Davis allow another man to tell him whether he could talk to a woman or not? I even asked Rev. Olson if he had to follow those rules. He said he was already married, so I guess he doesn't know what it's like to be under those rules personally. I can understand having some form of safeguard to keep ministers from fornicating, but to make them line up to ask for permission to talk to a woman is really humiliating. Why can't you just have normal friendships with people that develop sometimes into more than friendship when people find that they have some things in common? Other organizations have rules too, but men can talk to women in church and in fellowship meetings without fear of being the next topic for a blasting session from a pulpit. I remember one brother had to stand up in one of Rev. Davis' classes in front of all those people and then Rev. Davis asked a sister, do you want to talk to him? Of course she said, no. Then he told the poor guy to sit down. He told us not to come up to him and ask him to talk to any ladies when he is walking into the church. Forget that lifestyle. I don't want to live like a mouse, wondering if Rev. Davis is going to rebuke me from the pulpit for wanting to have something as normal as a wife and a family of my own. So he didn't follow the protocol. Now you're going to make him feel like a pervert for asking to talk to a girl?

  64. I was a member for several years and after witnessing so many pastors left to fend for themselves without compassion , love, and mercy from the NTCC leadership the holy spirit of God revealed to me that this is not what Jesus Christ was all about. Jesus is all about love he did on the cross because he had compassion and love for everyone. God the father loved us so much that he gave up his one and only son. After a few years as a member and through prayers the holy spirit revealed to me right then and there that NTCC is in no way a Christlike organization. in fact the spirit of God showed me through dreams that NTCC and the the lpharisees are one and the same. I finally left NTCC and to this day I continue to encourage others to seek a church that is filled with the love of Christ.

  66. A- Milieu Control "Milieu" is a French word meaning "surroundings; environment." Cults are able to control the environment around their recruits in a number of ways, but almost always using a form of isolation. B- Mystical Manipulation In religious cults, God is ever-present in the workings of the organization. C- Demand for Purity The world is depicted as black and white, with little room for making personal decisions based on a trained conscience. (not original to me)

As I suspect but good stuff nevertheless. That pretty much sums up the NTCC. Nothing but a mind controlling brainwashing cult.
